From the teacher....

Welcome to Third Grade!    This month the focus is on students’ listening skills and following directions.  The assignment book will come home with your student each evening during the week.  Please take time to check over the work for the evening and encourage your son/daughter to complete the nightly reading requirement.  I use the information to assess them for their independent reading grade.

Math skills are being reviewed for their knowledge of basic facts.  The students have practiced using place value to order and compare numbers.   Graphing skills are included in our weekly Time for Kids(TFK).  At this time, I am also introducing the first section of our Measurement Unit that presents the use of the metric system using meters and centimeters.

During the month of September, the reading series presents Adventures in Reading.  I encourage students to read nightly and bring a book to class for reading during our Silent Reading time.  All Accelerated Reader tests for summer reading should be completed.  The expectation for the summer was to have completed two books.  A grade will be entered for the students’ participation.

Weekly spelling lists will go home with the students in their assignment book on Mondays.  Students have circled in red words that need extra practice during the week.  The test will be given on Friday with the students writing one to two sentences using words from the spelling list.

The days are full and I am enjoying the students’ energy for learning.  Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have concerns regarding your son/daughter.
